McKinney Repertory Theatre (MRT) is a nonprofit community theatre dedicated to building community through live theatre. We do this by creating meaningful, high-quality theatrical experiences that connect artists, audiences, and our community.
MRT was founded in January 2003 by a group of local artists who believed in the power of theatre to connect, inspire, and strengthen community. What began as a shared passion has grown into a nonprofit organization committed to showcasing local talent and making live theatre accessible to all.
MRT is supported in part by grants from the City of McKinney through the McKinney Arts Commission (MAC) and the McKinney Community Development Corporation (MCDC). This vital partnership allows us to continue serving our community through high-quality productions, educational programming, and outreach initiatives.
As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we also rely heavily on the generosity of patrons, donors, sponsors, and community partners. We warmly welcome additional financial support through tax-deductible donations and community giving programs, which help ensure the sustainability and growth of our mission.
MRT performs primarily in McKinney at the historic Collin Country Courthouse, now known as the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC), located in the old downtown square.
Each season, MRT produces a diverse lineup of four (4) plays or musicals. Our productions are powered by passionate volunteers — from actors and directors to designers, stage managers, ushers, and committee members. Whether onstage or behind the scenes, our volunteers are the heart of MRT, making it possible for community members of all backgrounds to engage in the art of theatre, build friendships, and develop their creative skills.
MRT is committed to nurturing emerging talent through programs like the McKinney New Works Festival and the Schulte Prize for Young Playwrights. This initiative provides playwrights with the opportunity to workshop original scripts, collaborate with theatrical talent, and bring new stories to life in a supportive environment.
