REMAINING Audition Dates for 2025 SEASON:

"A Christmas Carol" - October 6th and 7th, 2025

6:30PM - 9PM

A CHRISTMAS CAROL SHOW SYNOPSIS:

The special one-hour performance (story by Charles Dickens, adapted by Dr. Andrew Harris) is an annual family tradition at MRT.  Each season more people are discovering this timeless story, in a way that only MRT can tell, with families coming back every year making it a part of their holiday season tradition. The miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is taught the true meaning and spirit of Christmas by ghosts who show him his own past and present. He is also shown what the future holds for him if he doesn't change his ways.


This year's production will be directed by Jennifer Lee and Assistant Directed by Marilyn Latham. 

CAST OF CHARACTERS:

All characters are open for auditions.  Some parts will involve mild dancing.  Note:  Double casting is possible and ages ranges are approximate .


Carolers, Party Guests, Friends of Fred, Business persons, Pall Bearers - Any age


Male Roles:

  • Ebenezer Scrooge – (50s-70s) Curmudgeon who changes his miserly ways to total reform.
  • Charles Dickens – (30s-40s) Beard desired.  Narrator and a bit of a chameleon. 
  • Ghost of Jacob Marley – (50s)  Scrooge’s partner and harbinger of subsequent hauntings.  
  • Mr. Fezziwig – (40s-60)  Former boss of young Scrooge who is happy and joyous.
  • Ghost of Christmas Present – (30s-50s)  A Jolly, Loud Spirit.
  • Bob Cratchit – (30s-50s)  Father of the family and employee of Scrooge.
  • Old Joe – (30s-60s) Fence for stolen merchandise.
  • Businessman #1-#4 – (30s-60s)  London businessman as part of the mercantile exchange.
  • Charitable Gent #1-#2 – (30s-60s)  Respectable businessmen, looking for donations. 
  • Beggar – (30s-60s)  Homeless person on the streets of London.
  • Fred – (20s-30s) Scrooge’s nephew.  A Romantic, Mild tempered man.  
  • Jack – (20s-30s)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Ted – (20s-30s)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Topper – (20s-30s)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Young Scrooge – (20s-30s) Scrooge in younger days, before his back is turned on the world.
  • Dick Wilkens – (20s-30s)  A friend and coworker of young Scrooge.
  • Peter Cratchit – (Middle School Age)  The quietest of the Cratchit Family.
  • Ned Cratchit – (Elementary School age)  Twin to Sally.
  • Boy Scrooge – (Elementary School age)  Finds books more comforting than Father’s dwelling.  
  • Turkey Boy – (Elementary School age)  Boy that Scrooge contracts to buy the prize turkey.
  • Tiny Tim – (Elementary School age)  The youngest, feeblest Cratchit.
  • Want – (Elementary School age)  Waif representing the imagery of want to Scrooge.


Female Roles:

  • Mrs. Fezziwig – (30s-50s) Wife of Mr. Fezziwig.
  • Mrs. Cratchit – (30s-50s)  Wife of Bob and mother to the family and Tiny Tim.
  • Mrs. Dilber – (30s-50s)  Cockney.  Comedic. A maid in Scrooge’s service.    
  • Mrs. Filcher – (30s-50s)  Cockney.  Comedic. A maid in Scrooge’s service. 
  • Belle – (20s-30s) Tragically in love with Young Scrooge.  
  • Martha Cratchit – (20s-30s)  The eldest of the Cratchit family who works.
  • Mary – (16-25)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Beth – (16-25)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Meg – (16-25)  Friend of Fred and party guest.
  • Belinda Cratchit - (16-20)  Middle daughter of the Cratchit family.
  • Ghost of Christmas Past – (16-20)  A young looking apparition with age old wisdom.  
  • Little Fan – (Elementary School age)    Scrooge’s sister.  She loves her brother.  
  • Undertaker’s Daughter – (Elementary School age)  A girl who sells the candlesticks to Old Joe.
  • Sally Cratchit – (Elementary School age) Twin to Ned.
  • Ignorance – (Elementary School age)  Waif representing imagery of ignorance to Scrooge.

AUDITION INFORMATION:

Auditions are on October 6th & 7th, 2025. Please arrive between 6:30-7:00 pm to sign in and auditions will run from 7pm until 9pm.  Auditions are open to everyone in the community, even if you have no experience acting! Sides for the audition will be posted below soon. 


Be prepared for cold readings from the script.    To audition for singing carolers, please prepare 16 bars of a Christmas or Holiday song.
 

We are committed to diverse casting and all roles are open to performers of all backgrounds. All roles are volunteer only and are not paid, however, a stipend will be given to all actors cast in the show.  
 

Headshots and resumes are not required, but welcome if you have one.  Walk-ins are accepted at auditions.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION:

First Rehearsal/Read Through: TBD

REHEARSALS:  Rehearsals will be held from October 13 through November 13th on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM. 


LOAD IN & SET BUILD:  November 16, 2025

TECH WK REHEARSALS:  November 17 - 19, 2025 from 6:30 PM - 10 PM

DRESS REHEARSAL:   November 20 at 6:30 PM

PICK-UP REHEARSALS:  November 28 & December 11 at 6:30 PM


*Please do not audition if you have any conflicts with tech week or performance dates.

If you intend to audition with MRT, please read the MRT Code of Conduct Agreement available for download below.
