A CHRISTMAS CAROL SHOW SYNOPSIS:
This special one-hour performance (based on Charles Dickens's story, adapted by Dr. Andrew Harris) is an annual family tradition at MRT. Each season, more people are discovering this timeless story in a way only MRT can tell, with families coming back every year and making it part of their holiday season tradition. The miserly Ebenezer Scrooge is taught the true meaning and spirit of Christmas by ghosts who show him his own past and present. He is also shown what the future holds for him if he doesn't change his ways. Show is Rated PG due to ghosts and thematic elements around death.
CAST OF CHARACTERS:
All characters open for auditions. Note: Double casting is possible, and age ranges are approximate.
Some parts will involve mild dancing.
Carol Singers: Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, & Basses needed.
(Choir or quartet experience and/or ability to read music is helpful but not required.)
Male Roles:
- Ebenezer Scrooge – (50s-70s) Curmudgeon who changes his miserly ways to total reform.
- Charles Dickens – (30s-40s) Narrator and a bit of a chameleon.
- Ghost of Jacob Marley – (50s) Scrooge’s dead partner, harbinger of subsequent hauntings.
- Mr. Fezziwig – (40s-60) Former boss of young Scrooge who is happy and generous..
- Ghost of Christmas Present – (30s-50s) A jolly, boisterous Spirit.
- Bob Cratchit – (30s-50s) Father of the family and employee of Scrooge.
- Old Joe – (30s-60s) Greedy, lower class fence for stolen merchandise.
- Businessman #1-#4 – (30s-60s) London businessmen as part of the mercantile exchange.
- Charitable Gent #1 & #2 – (30s-60s) Kind hearted businessmen, collecting donations.
- Fred – (20s-30s) Scrooge’s married nephew. A Romantic, mild-tempered man.
- Jack – (20s-30s) Friend of Fred and party guest.
- Ted – (20s-30s) Friend of Fred and party guest.
- Topper – (20s-30s) Friend of Fred and party guest.
- Young Scrooge – (18-25) Scrooge in his younger days, before his back is turned on the world.
- Dick Wilkens – (18-25) A friend and coworker of young Scrooge.
- Peter Cratchit – (Middle School Age) The shyest of the Cratchit Family.
- Ned Cratchit – (Elem School age) Twin to Sally.
- Boy Scrooge – (Elem School age) Finds comfort in his books at boarding school.
- Pallbearers (2) - Any age adults
- Turkey Boy – (Elem School age) Boy that Scrooge contracts to buy the prize turkey.
- Tiny Tim – (Elem School age) The youngest, feeblest Cratchit child.
Boy or Girl:
- "Want" – (Elem School age) No Lines - Waif representing the imagery of want.
- "Ignorance" – (Elem School age) No Lines - Waif representing imagery of ignorance.
- Undertaker’s Kid – (Elem School age) Sells the candlesticks to Old Joe.
- Beggar Child - (Elem School age) - begs on the streets
Female Roles:
- Beggar – (20s-60s) Homeless woman with newborn on the streets of London.
- Mrs. Fezziwig – (30s-50s) Wife of Mr. Fezziwig. Loves entertaining & hosting.
- Mrs. Cratchit – (30s-50s) Wife of Bob and mother to the family and Tiny Tim.
- Mrs. Dilber – (30s-50s) Cockney. Comedic. A maid in Scrooge’s service.
- Mrs. Filcher – (30s-50s) Cockney. Comedic. A maid in Scrooge’s service.
- Belle – (18-25) Tragically in love with Young Scrooge.
- Martha Cratchit – (18-25s) The eldest of the Cratchit children, has a job & works hard.
- Mary – (16-25) Fred's young wife.
- Beth – (16-25) Friend of Fred and party guest.
- Meg – (16-25) Friend of Fred and party guest.
- Belinda Cratchit (16-20) Middle daughter of the Cratchit family.
- Ghost of Christmas Past – (16-50) An apparition with age old wisdom.
- Little Fan – (Elem School age) Scrooge’s sister. She loves her brother.
- Sally Cratchit – (Elem School age) Twin to Ned.
AUDITION INFORMATION:
Auditions will consist of monologues and cold readings from the script. No memorization required—just a willingness to jump in and collaborate. Monologues and sides for the audition are provided below.
Headshots and resumes are not required, but they are welcome if you have them. Walk-ins are accepted at auditions. For those unable to attend auditions but interested in participating in the show, alternative arrangements for a video audition can be made by emailing auditions@mckinneyrep.org.

Please note: All roles are volunteer only and are not paid, however, a stipend will be given to all adults (18+) cast in the show and children (17 years of age and under) will be given two comp. tickets to be shared with family or friends.
If cast in the show, all volunteers must have a background check on file with McKinney Performing Arts Center via Voly.

LOAD IN & SET BUILD: Sunday, December 6th with Cue to Cue from 4-8 PM
TECH WK REHEARSALS: Monday & Tuesday, December 7 & 8 from 6:30 to 10 PM
